Military education benefits can help students achieve two goals
| Wednesday, June 22, 2011 |
For many students, transitioning straight from high school to college is a natural progression. Their friends are doing it, and their parents want them to do it. Pursuing a college degree has become a necessary step to securing one’s personal and professional success.
However, some young adults have set other goals for their post - high school years. These individuals may have an interest in not only pursuing a college degree but also in serving their country.
Luckily, military programs exist that can help individuals pay for their college costs in return for military service. Although aid programs vary in terms of the amount of financial assistance that service personnel can earn, CollegeAnswer.com, a college planning Web site, states that individuals can receive up to $50,000 toward school expenses in return for an active duty tour.
According to the U.S. Army's official Web site, there are a variety of college scholarships available to individuals who want to advance their knowledge after time spent in service to their country. Among them are the Montgomery GI Bill, the Post 9/11 GI Bill and Army College Fund, all of which can help students cover a large portion of their college expenses.
